El Salvador "Peach'

from $21.00

This is a famous coffee with a romantic story behind it. Each year we make sure to purchase some “Peach” as we were a part of its origin story here at Backporch. The Peach name refers to the peach like color of cherry produced and the varietal is somewhat of a mystery, both in definition and how it came about. Nacho, El Rosario’s former farm manager, was walking El Rosario and analyzing sugar content of the ripening cherries. After grabbing a few cherries from some trees on the the east side of the farm, he noted a dramatic difference in color, sweetness and sugar content of three specific trees. He isolated these three trees for a very small, micro lot and waited for Backporch to show up at the farm to see what we thought. The cherries were hand milled right in front of us and we were able to taste a bit of the 5 or so lbs. that they were able to isolate. Dave still remembers the smell of the fresh peach cherries as they were milled right in front of him and his staff.

Since then, Miguel Menendez Snr. has replanted the peach across a handful of his farms.

This particular “peach,” is grown at Finca El Rosario. El Rosario is an absolutely stunning farm located near the town of Apaneca, along the Ruta de Las Flores. This years peach is graham cracker like, fruity like its peach name alludes to and has a candied sugar like finish to it. It is reminiscent of Lucky Charms cereal if we are being honest.

Another delightful, directly traded coffee from the Menendez family.
